On Wednesday 30 May, Room 9 went out to Daltons to see how Compost was made on a commercial scale. We have been turning the compost in our school bins and we wanted to see how a big company like Daltons made compost for gardeners all over New Zealand. Mr Parker and all the staff at Daltons were really helpful and answered all our questions. It was amazing to see the huge machinery and the robots in the packing shed. We got to feel how hot it was inside a pile of compost, as all the mirco-organisms worked hard to break down the bark.
Welcome to our Class Blog where we share all the special things that happen at school. We hope you enjoy our posts so much, you will visit our site lots of times.

Living Gems
This term our Treasure Seeker focus is Living Gems. We will be discussing how living organisms are used to make products that benefit people.
First we are going to find out all about Composting. The first step was to clean out the compost bins behind our class. Adam, his big brother Jarrod and his Dad came to school in the weekend and worked hard to get rid of all the rubbish in the bins, including broken bottles!

Mr Priest's Treasure Box
On Friday 24 February, Mr Priest visited Room 9 to show us some of the things he has saved in his special Treasure Box that belonged to his father. There were lots of special things in the box and he shared lots of memories with us, from when he was a child and his trips to other countries.
He also showed us an amazing birds nest, that had blown out of one of the trees at KBC during a storm.
